# Game Overview
This document is **under construction** and describes the basic plot and areas of the game.
## Prologue
Short version: Marvin convinces Rachel to go on a romantic outing with him to a desert island.
She reluctantly agrees.
Mere days in, Marvin dies, and Rachel must find her way back home while also searching for meaning in her own life.
Unfortunately, their boat is broken, so she will have to use the island as a resource to help her reassemble it.
Also, she's vegan, and won't harm any animals.
This is good, because the island is brimming with animals that can help her.
This story is based in part on The Real Castaway, the true story of a couple surviving for 9 months on a desert island.
Rachel stays strictly vegan the entire time, surviving off coconuts.

## 1. The beach
**Theme**: Pollution, litter, environment
The beach is the area that Rachel first encounters, as it's the area her boat first lands.
She has built a small hut to sleep in.
Marvin is buried here, and there's a large neighborhood of seagulls nearby.
Unfortunately, the seagulls have a dilemma: their beloved beach is covered in human trash and waste.
They are covered in oil and caught in plastic drink holders.
A turtle has a straw wedged in his nose.
There's a bar where the seagulls drink and lament their woes.
They don't know how to fix the problem, but would give nothing more than for the beach to return to its former state, as it was years ago.
**Proposed solution**: Rachel throws all the trash into a recycling bin - one by one.
Perhaps she needs to find the recycling bin first, or needs a powerup to lift the garbage.

## 2. The woods
**Theme**: Predator/prey
The woods are at the heart of the island and contain many ferocious beasts and their defenseless prey.
Be that as it may, in 2018 these "beasts" have evolved to regret their position in the food chain.
These self-loating lions, tigers, and bears face carnivore-guilt but cannot stop killing because they are obligate carnivores who require animal-protein to survive.
Meanwhile, rabbits, elk, and birds quibble over whether their lion companion who self-identifies as a deer should be allowed in prey-only spaces.
They are so distracted by this argument that the killing goes on uninhibited all around them.
No one is devising a solution.
**Proposed solution**: Somehow Rachel introduces cultured meat into the mix.
It solves the problem and she is rewarded.
Still, the prey animals bicker on about whether eating a food product in their likeness reinforces The Carniarchy.

## 3. The castle
**Theme:** Homo supremacy, capitalism
A villanous primate, David Graybeard, has set out to conquer the island.
He has used his supreme intelligence to coerce the beavers into building him a castle, and he commands an army of chimps after climbing to the top of their social hierarchy.
His plan is to take ownership of the island's land and force the animals into a new mode of production which suits his needs, or else face consequences.
The beavers can fix your boat, but a local repair shop is part of the resistance against David Graybeard and cannot help you until he is defeated.
You will need to trek into Graybeard's castle and overcome many obstacles before finally defeating Graybeard himself and restoring hope to the land.
**Proposed solution**: Graybeard's castle is a large dungeon with lots of puzzles.
Maybe Graybeard even taunts you along the way.
In the final room, maybe you can just reason with him. Or maybe you have to choose between "violent" and "nonviolent" action.
Or maybe the beavers all storm in and announce that they're unionizing, I don't know.

## Finale
The beavers fix your ship, and you get a very satisfying momement where everyone you helped waves you off as you sail away.
Roll credits. |
