[Meta] Navigation

This meta issue reflects the issues discovered from our research surrounding general navigation

UX Ready

  • Make Secondary Navigation elements available on hover
  • Rename profile tabs to be in line with project dashboard
  • Make 'Projects' page clearer and easier to see own projects
  • Add badge count to project/group tabs
  • Create Todo from collapsed sidebar + new todo icon
  • Inconsistent location of members page between groups and projects
  • Extra functionality for the top right Plus Button
  • Fix async alerts at top of viewport when scrolling

Quick wins

  • Viewing counts of and navigating to global dashboard issues and merge requests
  • Keyboard shortcut for dropdown

Priority 1

  • Global vs. contextual navigation
  • Improve glanceability of long combined settings views

Priority 2 (Easier wins)

  • Add group name to new project page
  • Display issue status in visible location so user doesnt have to scroll to top
  • Fluidity of primary navigation bar
  • Content of context switcher is unexpected

Priority 3

  • Identify many instances of GitLab servers with a nice looking color
  • Default project view - highlighted tab when changing settings
  • Distinguish between project dashboard and group page
  • Improve global issue and merge request pages and clarity of scoped results
  • Confusion between default dashboard view and default project view
