Recruit developers leaflet
Two of our own peeps will speak at the SCaLE 16X (the 16th annual Southern California Linux Expo) in a couple of weeks:
- Extending Inkscape with SVG Filters by Ted Gould @ted.gould
- Developers, Developers, Developers—How About Creatives? by Ryan Gorley @ryangorley
This is an amazing opportunity to promote Inkscape, get more people on board as contributors and users too. The deadline is close, and we might not create the ultimate recruiting leaflet but it doesn't mean we should send them empty-handed.
As @ryangorley suggested in 28#note_59463004 we need a leaflet directed at programmers:
- experienced and looking to contribute to various communities/projects,
- experienced but not aware of benefits to contributing to FOSS,
- students looking for mentorship and gaining experience,
- ?
As @Moini suggested the https://inkscape.org/en/develop/ is a good place to send potential candidates. We'll work on improving the whole onboarding experience in the following months, for now we can rely on what we have.
To simplify design and lower printing costs lets decide on a simple format (not a 3-fold) and focus on b/w digital print. @ryangorley please share what format you'd like us to focus on? Do you plan on printing at home or you have a friendly shop that can quickly print and cut a small number of leaflets? Maybe 1/4 of a letter format, front and back?
What we need for the SCaLE leaflet?
Generally speaking to recruit we need 3 things:
- Information about dev team (names, mugshots, where they work, how they contribute, quotes about programming and FOSS, notable contributions etc)
- Information about Inkscape, importance and reach, stories about how people use it, but preferably focused on testimonies "from wishlist to problem solved and user delighted"
- Why people should contribute, what's in it for THEM (get experience and get mentored, general FOSS benefits, ?)
The "quick and dirty" leaflet would list the current devs and a Call To Action (CTA) and benefits on one side, the other would show Inkscape stories.
@All Please comment and contribute nuggets we can include!
