A4 3-fold Roll leaflet
I've (@prkos) started working on a leaflet content gathering materials for a A4 3-fold Roll leaflet that can be distributed about Inkscape in general (everywhere, all audiences). Trying to be everything to everyone isn't usually a good idea, but since our resources are limited I'm going for an overall approach for the first leaflet so we end up with something that can potentially be used right away, but will also spawn more materials, that are focused on specific audiences and it will be easier to collage them into new more focused materials.
Ideally, we need branding guidelines finished first, but since organizing all the bits for the leaflet might take some time it's better to start sooner.
This is what such a leaflet looks like:
The idea is to use the outside of A4 for Inkscape general information, the inside A4 for community contributions as a way of showcasing what Inkscape can do.
The front leaflet page would hold main Inkscape branding message (logo, tagline, what makes Inkscape special and different, who is it for).
The back leaflet page would show small mugshots and names of core devs, their locations, quotes? some interesting Inkscape trivia (worth how many millions of $ of dev hours?, community impact..) with a Call To Action "Come contribute", "Join us", etc.
The flap outer would show screenshots of most prominent features, eye candy.
The inside A4 page would hold community contributions, 3 of them, one per leaflet page. Each would show the art in question, with artists contacts and a short bio in an overlay.
@prkos has contacted some Inkscapers for their input and gotten some positive answers:
Peppertop
Mark and Vince ofEven though they don't create the all Inkscape Greys comic any more (you may remember them from The Greys on inkscapeforum and their Easter eggs), they are active in other comics that still use Inkscape, and would love to contribute. Depending on the deadlines they might come up with something special for our leaflet, or even more than one idea for future materials. TBD Mark (greys@peppertop.com) will discuss with Vince on Feb 13.
I got the almost finished cartoon! It's fabulous I can't wait till you all see it :D
We won't publish it here since this is a public group, better wait for official release.
If anyone wants a preview I can email directly.
Steve Dayton
Steve Dayton is an artist and an oldtimer on inkscapeforum.org. He recently used Inkscape to create the drawing for a cookie cutter, which he was then able to extrude in other app and get it printed! There's a photo of the 3D printed cutter too: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=33375&p=103217#p103217
He also created an impressive public sculpture in downtown Salt Lake City: http://www.stevedaytonart.com/#/sculpture/ which also originated from an Inkscape drawing. These are all impressive examples and it would be great to get more information/photos to print for the leaflet. Steven is preparing more cookie cutters, I suggested to create one in the Inkscape logo shape, of course :D
Steven would also like to contribute to the leaflet, I can let him know what we need from him after Vectors meet and discuss.
I suggested we might want photos of high enough quality to print, of the sculpture, of the cutter like posted on the forum, cutter in action in the kitchen, the finished product (baked cookies) And the drawings too, and any in-between photos of the work in progress.
@brynn please comment these are your flock, suggest more people to contact.
