Conduct interviews to understand Plan user journeys and most crucial JTBD
What's this issue all about? (Background and context)
The Plan team's work on Category Scorecards has surfaced an overall need for validated JTBD within the stage. The jobs we identified in the internal issue are a good start but we would like to conduct light JTBD interviews with users to to better understand priority and importance of these jobs as told by users, and better understand the context in which users are completing these jobs and where they map in their journey.
What are the overarching goals for the research?
- Better understand the user journey of personas directly or tangentially related to Parker as it relates to Plan
- Have a prioritized (by users) list of the most crucial jobs within each step of a Plan user's journey
- Understand the job steps within each job
- Understand how these jobs and job steps map to our product in order to identify and prioritize opportunities
- Broadly communicate our JTBD as a guide for how and why we are building
What hypotheses and/or assumptions do you have?
These interviews will help us validate which job stories are most crucial to develop opportunity canvases and solutions for- which will ideally lead to further adoption of Plan features and less solution gaps in the user workflow.
What research questions are you trying to answer?
- What is a typical day/journey of personas like Parker ? These could be users of our Planning features or not.
- What is the most crucial job for users are each step in their journey?
- Are the jobs we identified important to them? How would they prioritize them if so?
- How might their journey differ from internal GitLab users and why?
What persona, persona segment, or customer type experiences the problem most acutely?
What business decisions will be made based on this information?
- Product will use these JTBD to help identify and validate opportunities
What, if any, relevant prior research already exists?
https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/ux-research/issues/498
What timescales do you have in mind for the research?
- Most crucial Plan JTBD identified ideally around the beginning of Q2 so we can start work on scorecards with validation JTBD
Who will be leading the research?
This would be problem validation, so ideally research and the Product Manager of each group will be DRI as defined in the workflow. Product Designers of each group should also be involved. This can be defined by each group.
