Pin menu in Gitlab 9.0 - Global Sidebar converted to Dropdown
Quick iterative improvements
- There is good work happening in 9.2 to make shortcuts to Merge requests and Issues more visible here https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/29866 Targeting 9.0 patch release
- This issue will help with accessing the new dropdown menu with a keyboard shortcut: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/30036 Targeting 9.0 patch release
Additional improvement to invest in
- Easy way to access projects + groups https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/30245
- Provide a way to easily access the top navigation without scrolling https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/30234
- Personalization to provide easier identification of multiple servers
Research based navigation changes moving forward

Other concerns voiced below
- balance - space on the left in big monitors
- familiarity - having to re-educate enterprise users
Proposed change
- Introduce an element at the bottom of the hamburger dropdown
Pin this menu
- Choosing this will display the previously known left menu
Original Issue
I have updated to latest Gitlab 9.0. And now I do not see any way to pin menu on the left of screen. I have very big monitor to always display menu and I do not like to perform unnecessary mouse action... in attempts to pick small icon in the top left corner.
Any options to switch it back to be pinned?
