Managing MRs
Add guidance around monitoring MR review workload (gitlab-com/content-sites/handbook!4586 - merged)
Proposal
Perform a retro to ensure we are accomplishing our goals and have found suitable alternatives to the benefits the previous process provided. Areas to consider are:
- Is this new process an improvement in terms of managing the capacity?
- Do MR reviews feel manageable across groups that inherently have a higher MR rate?
- Are we still unable to support reviewing MRs of groups that do not have designers?
- Are there other avenues to promote awareness of other product areas?
- How are we creating awareness into other areas?
- How are we making connections between product areas to promote collaboration and cross-stage workflows?
- How did we move the design review process earlier?
- How did we increase design quality and feedback outside of MR reviews?
- How will designers discover new passions or areas of interest?
- Are we able to improve communication and documentation of design solutions without outside MR reviews being a forcing function?
- How did we ensure that design solutions are still being clearly communicated in issues and MRs?
Timeline
- Implement new review process in Q1
- Find suitable replacements for the previous benefits by end of Q1
- Spend three months utilizing new process and suitable replacements in Q2
- Perform retro at end of Q2 to answer the above questions
