Lessons learned with Renovate (on-prem)
Lessons learned renovate - go, managing infra, storage space, use on Prem if possible,
If you've recently been on my site, you'll have seen Why I recommend Renovate over any other dependency update tools ??.
I've been running Renovate ??.
At Capital One, we used the Mend SAAS platform, which ??.
At Deliveroo, I started with the GitHub Actions runner, then moved to Mend Renovate On-Prem (now Mend Renovate Community Edition) ??
At Elastic, we're using the Mend Renovate SAAS.
My (recommended) journey
Start with GitLab CI/GitHub Actions
Soon, you'll want faster feedback
So you move to community edition
Lessons:
You may want a beefier machine
Be careful about disk space
Go, npm
Understand how teams are using it
(so you can craft better config)
Wire in secrets
Hosted if you can!
Not scalable
Avoid exposing the status endpoint?
(Managing infra?)
