PDF needs matching style environments
The Readthedocs CSS contains custom formatting for inline
and two-column
classes. The matching LaTeX environments would be sphinxclassinline
and sphinxclasstwo-column
(as explained in sphinxlatexcontainers.sty
). Those do not exist, yet.
Why does it matter?
Inline style
Inline icons are defined in CSS to have a height of 1.1em. Using larger inline PNG icons will seriously mess with the line spacing in the PDF, unless the PPI of the graphics is adjusted.
All but two of the icons in the guide have been replaced by a combination of SVG and PDF. The remaining two are icons from the GNOME icon theme, which have dimensions of 16×16 px @ 90 PPI. If any icon should get changed or should new ones be added, a missing PPI adjustment can lead to subtle errors. It would be better, if that would be handled automatically.
Two-column style
The two-column style is used on the pages 'Moving and Rotating Letters' and 'Flowing Text into a Frame' to show before and after images, as well on the page 'Spirals' to save page. Neither use case is currently possible in PDF.
It should be possible to achieve a two-column flow in LaTeX using a package like subfig (https://www.ctan.org/pkg/subfig).
