Bundle Mattermost with GitLab Omnibus packages

If you have to work completely on-premises (like many GitLab users have to for various reasons) there is no good way to do messaging:

  • GitLab Wall was deprecated
  • IRC is not very userfriendly (the whole organization to be able to use it)
  • HipChat Server closed source, a bit outdated and $72 per person at 25 people

We'll bundle Mattermost with GitLab so people have a great alternative.

They are working to use GitLab OAuth, switch the DB to PostgreSQL and use file storage instead of s3.
