Removes "fixes" that broke the pipeline table

What does this MR do?

This rmeoves a couple of lines of code that were labelled as hacks to fix the pipelines table. The problem being that they had the side-effect of making the ptable unpredictable and broke it in other ways. It looks like whatever it was fixing is no-longer an issue, but I can't really be 100% sure.
