Design review: Organization groups and projects dashboard

Problem

We want to ensure the Organization groups and projects dashboard works as expected.

Specifically, we're looking to have a complete design review around usability, design standards, and overall UX correctness.

Resources:

Output:

  • List of issues which are prioritized. Some may need to be fixed prior to release, some may be in the backlog as future changes needed.

Proposal

  • Perform a design review of the Organization groups and projects dashboard.
  • Document any findings (bugs, enhancements) for future improvements.

Findings

Note, I'm referencing designs from Design: MVC organization groups and projects and Design: Organization Experience Summary

Description Image Thread
When landing, the title of the page is Groups and projects, but only one is displayed at a time. While this does match the MVC designs, it's a confusing experience. When I first landed, the display was defaulted to projects and I wondered where the groups were. Screenshot 2025-01-30 at 15.28.21.png Link
The sorting dropdown includes Created and Updated options. This is consistent with the projects list in Your work> Projects but inconsistent with other areas of the product where we user Created Date and Updated Date, for example in Your work > Groups and the Group overview page. image.png Link
There is not enough spacing between icons in the groups and project views. It looks cramped and doesn't match the spacing in the original designs or Your work> Projects. I'd suggest increasing the column-gap to 0.75rem. Screenshot 2025-01-30 at 16.23.06.png Link
After creating a new (empty) organization, the page defaults to the projects display...but I can't create a project until I have a group created first. I'd expect to see the groups empty state first. Screenshot 2025-02-05 at 15.52.22 Medium.png Link
When creating a new project from my new organization, I get redirected to create a project in the default organization. I expect to create a project in my original organization. redirect.png Link
