Design discovery: notifications
Overview
Over the years, we've had numerous issues/epics/efforts to summarize the problems with the notification/to do experience, for instance:
- GitLab To Dos - Research Consolidation and Next... (&5525 - closed)
- Sync working sessions to make progress on notif... (gitlab-design#2066 - closed)
- [In Progress] Todos Research Executive Summary (#323851 - closed)
- SUS Verbatims Regarding Notifications (gitlab-design#2076 - closed)
- Problems with personal workflows, notifications... (gitlab-foss#43474 - closed)
But, there hasn't been a team working on notifications so many of these efforts have struggled to move forward.
Items we'll complete as part of this issue:
In tandem with the problem validation research on notifications, start a discovery process from a design POV. The goals would be to:
-
Review the work that's been done already (competitive analysis, design jam docs, previous diagrams and research). Figma link. -
Map out/inventory the current notification/to-do experience. Please see this comment for maps/inventories. -
Start sketching out wireframes for future workflows and improvements based on initial review. Wireframe walkthrough prototype link.
We'll use the wireframes we generate as part of this process to discuss next steps/priorities in the space, and to create relevant follow-up issues that we can schedule for subsequent milestones.
