Pages | Offer large paid storage limits on Ultimate, Premium, and Free
Problem to solve
In its current state storage is limited to 1 Gb for everyone, regardless of the tier of GitLab they use.
There are several challenges that arise with the 1 Gb limitation:
- Large projects are constrainted. If you have a bunch of large media files (ie images, videos) you can easily exceeded the limit.
- It might discourage companies that have larger projects, pushing them to competitors.
- You might need to regularly compress files which can be a cumbersome process.
- Developers hitting the limit may become frustrated and look for alternative solutions.
- Documentation sites, like our very own, can grow quickly and the 1 Gb limited can prevent effective hosting of knowledge.
Potential solution
Offering different Gb limits depending on tier. An example could be:
- Free: 1 Gb
- Premium: 2 Gb
- Enterprise: 5 Gb
Why would we do this?
- Paid storage limits can encourage a more mindful approach of resources.
- Paid storage limits offer greater flexibility and encourage users to move up to Premium and Ultimate.
- Different projects require different levels of storage and this would help support larger projects.
- Paid storage plans could be a jumping-off point for additional features, such as come with advanced analytics or security.
