Display labels on Roadmaps
Release Post
Within the roadmap view, we provided limited context about the epics displayed which makes it difficult for users to identify information without leaving the roadmap view. This feature will display assigned labels on the epic list in the sidebar, providing easy access without leaving the page. In addition, the ability to turn the feature off will be available in roadmap settings.
Context
Display epic labels within the roadmap view to enable users to identify the categories or groups the epics in their roadmap belong to. This is an MVC which in the future can be iterated on to provide something like swimlanes or more first class groupings within the roadmap view.
From users:
- can we have an epic visualization enhancement / toggle to show / visualize specific labels
- Labels are used in Gitlab as a defacto dimension tool. Statuses, projects, features and teams are all commonly identified via a label. The major purpose of a roadmap view is to visualise progress of epics across desired dimensions, not to view the status of a particular epic. That need isn't resolved if the epic metadata is hidden behind an interaction that only displays one set of metadata at a time.
This query represents a development team's workload. The user is unable to determine which epics relate to the same project/feature, nor their business workflow state (which is normally represented by a scoped label).
