Accessibility issues
WIP
Tools used/to use:
- Firefox's built-in a11y inspector checks issues with contrast, keyboard, and text labels.
- Chromium's Lighthouse also detects some general issues.
- WAVE (a firefox extension) is more extensive but injects icons into the page to show where the issues are but that makes it harder to actually use IMO.
- https://www.powermapper.com/products/sortsite/checks/accessibility-checks/ online checker (trial) goes even more detail and breaks the issues into the different levels of WCAG as well. Although I haven't tried it personally, so I can't comment on its actual effectiveness

-
Success Criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content -
all control images seem to be missing alts; separately tracked in #135 -
decorative images should be hidden from assistive tech see WCAG failure reason
-
-
Success Criterion 3.1.1 Language of Page -
missing lang attribute
-
-
Success Criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum), i. e. text contrast of 4.5:1 (3:1 on large texts) -
'get Fedora' on the right side of the navbar technically doesn't meet the criteria with 4.49 😅 on the brightest blue -
the white fedora logo/text in the navbar on blue only has a contrast of 2.8 -
the 'Latest release 37' only has a contrast of 2.54 -
the '100% FREE & OPEN SOURCE' above that only has a contrast of 4.02-4.07 -
the 'Registered Digial Public Good' only has a contrast of 3.41-3.49 -
the 'Learn More' buttons for the different fedora editions only has a contrast of 2.79 -
the 'Download Now' links within the 'editions cards' in dark mode only got 2.85 -
the blue fedora logo/text at the bottom on the grey has a contrast of 2.3 -
'Help improve this website...' at the bottom in dark mode has a contrast of 2.53
-
-
Success Criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard -
when you click on an item in the navbar a menu slides down. It looks you can't fully navigate that with your keyboard. The left side bar can't be focused.
-
-
Success Criterion 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide -
might be violated by that auto-typing animation
-
-
Success Criterion 2.5.3 Label in Name or maybe Success Criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value -
navbar buttons don't have accessible names
-
-
unsure under which success criterion these might fall -
the 3rd focused item (i. e. the item before 'Get Fedora') is invisible (and doesn't seem to do anything when activated?) -
red hat 'text' (logo) in footer is an image and doesn't scale
