Redesign Escargot Today to fit in MSN Today window on 8.x and improve Escargot Today's framework
After the MsgrConfig hotfix was deployed, we now have a Windows Live Today button on 8.x. While 7.5's MSN Today feature is still broken with our msidcrl patch, this time on 8.x, the Today window actually loads Escargot Today. Problem, however, is that the browser pane is set to not display any scroll bars, and even with arrow keys, you can't scroll through Escargot Today easily in that case.

I'd like to vouch anyone to redesign Escargot Today so that it fits in the Today window. That doesn't necessarily mean "make it look all retro and 2000s", but find a way to compact Escargot Today enough that it is fully viewable in the Today window (and possibly remove the Escargot Today tab for 8.x users too, if that's OK).
I'd also like to address the problem with consistently delivering news via Escargot Today:
So yesterday's Escargot Today entry was a combination of an update that should've been on there around 8 months ago (Yahoo! Messenger frontend), another update that should've been on there a month ago (WLM 2009 support), and one that was ready by yesterday (the MsgrConfig hotfix). Basically, after 2017, we haven't been consistent with Escargot Today updates, and I think I see why. Something along the lines of not enough time to update the Escargot Today page in pure HTML and simple neglect, with neglect showing a bit more in my eyes. The current entry system works in two ways:
-
@valtron decides to edit the Escargot Today page with the appropriate details, updates the HTML file manually on his server, and then pushes the changes to this GitLab repo.
-
Someone else does the update for him, and either makes a new branch with the changes and a corresponding merge request to then wait for valtron to merge the changes to the master branch and upload the changes to the server, or e-mail him the updated HTML and play the waiting game for him to upload the updated page to the server.
Obviously, we can't rely on @valtron all the time to update Escargot Today, and since he's the only one doing the updating, that means when he's attending to other work or doing other things, Escargot Today is left there to rot.
But to mitigate this problem, we should find a way to consistently deliver updates to Escargot Today. I'm thinking of developing a secured in-house service that'll let us post new updates (with an option to add custom HTML, too) to a file that'll contain the Escargot Today updates, which will then be parsed by the handler into HTML and rendered to the end user. This could also allow for other trusted members to push updates for us when necessary, and Escargot Today won't end up as an abandoned wasteland, like it almost did.
Also, maybe make an RSS feed for Escargot Today, as yellows111 suggested? It would be nice to have a standardized feed of Escargot updates at some point.
