Server Help Messages: Gender and Consistency
qubodup created issue #1329 on 2012-10-03T11:22:23Z:
Hello,
server/help.cfg , the hints that get displayed during a map loading have a few issues:
* set help_msg_10 “Most teammessages display waypoints by default. Use those to guide your teammates. You can also see them and the flagcarrier in the radar” * set help_msg_11 “Protect your Flagcarrier at all cost! Also save health and armor for him, he might need them more than you![]("
- set help_msg_15 "Notice what is happening around you) If your base is empty in CTF then STAY and defend the flag! Make sure someone defends the flagcarrier or assist him yourself” * set help_msg_29 “The Crylink’s primary fire bounces and both firemodes pull at enemies, making for a great to stop a flag carrier”
help_msg_10, 11, 15 and 29 don’t consistently use “flag carrier”, “Flagcarrier” or “flagcarrier”. I would suggest to always use “flag carrier”.
* set help_msg_11 “Protect your Flagcarrier at all cost! Also save health and armor for him, he might need them more than you![]("
- set help_msg_15 "Notice what is happening around you) If your base is empty in CTF then STAY and defend the flag! Make sure someone defends the flagcarrier or assist him yourself”
help_msg11 and 15 use the male form “him” and “he” to describe flag carrier. To not assume a gender (neither player nor player model), I would suggest to either write “him/her” or “them”/“they”.
* set help_msg_0 “Big Admin is watching you, so please be friendly or feel his almighty ban-hammer!”
Not sure about this one, but it might be that “Big Admin” is not supposed to have a gender or is supposed to be female, in which case it could be “their…”/“its …”/“his/her…”/“her …” instead of “his almighty ban-hammer”.
