Issues re Ubuntu-Unity 21.04
Hello, and a big THANK-YOU to Rudra Saraswat and all for the new Ubuntu-Unity 21.04!
For many years, I've been a happy user of Ubuntu with the Unity desktop environment. I've just installed your newly-released Ubuntu-Unity 21.04 on a new (on sale at US$650) Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15IIL05 81YK000LUS (15.6" diag., Core i7 CPU at 1.30 GHz, 16GB RAM, and I swapped in a 1TB NVMe SSD (formatted ext4 with four /home partitions and a large shared /userdata partition).
Sweet! But, with these five remaining minor shortfalls. Please help:
-
As previously noted by others, power-down and start-up seem uncharacteristically slow.
-
The default battery-sampling delay is far too long, making an accurate remaining time on charge - or even reporting when the power cord is inserted or removed - unnecessarily inaccurate.
-
On this computer, the default keyboard shortcuts for screen brightness ([Fn-F5] down and [Fn-F6] up) are disabled. (Unlike the keyboard shortcuts for sound, etc., which work well.) I believe this should simply default without adjustment, as it did on many other laptops.
-
As previously noted by others, reducing screen brightness all the way results in a totally-black screen; as this computer currently has no available keyboard shortcut, it then requires a reboot. Re-set the default minimum-brightness to a still-visible level!
-
How to "set" custom keyboard shortcuts to persist? Previously, after defining the action, one had to click an "Add" button - which no longer exists, but still is defined in the included Ubuntu Desktop Guide ("Help" icon).
Somewhere between hardware and software, and between Canonical and you, how best to parse and repair these remaining shortfalls?
Also, I am pleased to report that: 6. The current versions of my favorite FOSS Web composer, SeaMonkey Composer 2.53.7.1, and my favorite FOSS do-all photo program, Fotoxx 21.40, run very well on this distro. Recommended! https://www.seamonkey-project.org/doc/features https://www.kornelix.net/fotoxx/fotoxx.html
Thanks again, from --DickMMS
