Feature request: Revision of the clock interface
Created by: JassMan23
Description of the feature
I have always felt uncomfortable with the alarm clock swiping from the bottom while other clocks (stopwatch & timer) swipe from the right. I know this has be discussed before but I believe a picture (or 6) paints a thousand words.
I propose that the interface be made more consistent with all "tabs" of the clock sliding left/right in the same manner. To facilitate this I would suggest (although the order may be up for discussion) that there are tabs for
- Main view
- Alarm view
- Stopwatch
- Timer
- World Clocks
- Settings
- About
I have tried to draw each tab so that is divided half/half so that when the clock goes landscape, the 2 halves can be laid side by side. The primary changes from the existing clock are on the main (summary) screen. On this I would propose that the large face can be swapped between home and "local" for when you are on holiday/away on business. The away setting would be selected from the world screen. The switch between the 2 could be either radio buttons as shown or simply by touching the large face. The other change is to move the multiple world clocks to a separate "world" tab. This would leave space for "next event" from each of the other tabs, each in turn as per tab order. In the event of the user selecting "away", the home clock would replace the summary world clock, with appropriate swap of labels.
The other main change I would be propose is the means of setting Alarms. Since the Timer has an elegant means of setting a number of hours and minutes, I would propose re-using the mechanism to select an alarm time. This provides a closer emulation for a real alarm clock, and I have always found the number rollers to be rather fiddly and un-intuitive.
[edit] having loaded the illustrations: On the alarm screen, the "Add alarm" button was intended to look like the same as on the second alarm screen instead of the "+" on the right (so that the next bit makes more sense).
On the stopwatch screen I have noticed that I intended the Stopwatch to include the circular arrow reset as already used in timer to keep things consistent. I also had the idea of replacing the add button (consistent on alarm, timer and world) with a "lap" button being the stopwatch with an arrow pointing to the lap button. Effectively adding a lap, therefore consistent with the other "add" buttons.
[more edit] Just remembered that I wanted to propose (should have put it on the pics) that alarms are stored in zulu time (maybe they already are) and that swapping between home & local would swap the displayed alarm times as appropriate so that you can set an alarm for e.g. to phone a business colleague and flipping the timezone would show whether the chosen time is sensible for both parties. Alternatively, if you are flying halfway round the world, you may want to set an alarm to wake up for your first business meeting in the "away" time, and the summary screen would show you that really will need to sleep on the flight instead of watching the movies.
