Installer warns of downgrade before upgrade

I have TortoiseGit 2.18.0.0 installed. When I start the installer, TortoiseGit-2.18.0.1-64bit.msi, it shows

The note on the bottom that I am trying to install an older version is unexpected and seems erroneous.

I am reluctant to proceed with the installation, given this weird behavior.

This is at least the same symptom as #85 (closed), which was marked as fixed years ago.

History

I started the TortoiseGit config from the start menu and got a popup saying that a new version was available. Through the popup window I hit download and install. It didn't seem to make any progress; I closed the window and Navigated to the installer in MS-Windows Explorer, the clicked on the file to launch it. The result is above.

After, I checked the version currently installed. Whether I right-click in Explorer for TortoiseGit | About, look in Windows Add/remove programs, or check the Uninstall entry in the registry it reports 2.18.0.0 is the currently installed version.

Environment

MS Windows Server 2019 standard, v1809.

I have admin rights.

Git for Windows recently upgraded to 2.52.0, installed as discoverable by 3rd party apps.
