Canon Pixma MX430 Series (MX435) test report
As the supported devices page lists these devices as "Testers needed" I thought I report my findings. I have a Canon Pixma MX435 connected via WiFi. I am using a PC with Debian 10.5, libsane 1.0.27, simple-scan 3.30.1.1
First time "scanimage -L" returned empty list but at the second time (2 mins later) and every time after that it listed my scanner properly.
Doing some scans with "Simple Scan" revealed somewhat mixed results. Scanning starts and mostly finishes successfully but depending on resolution (or maybe its rather the data quantity?) sometimes it aborts (somewhere in the middle of the page) with an error: "Failed to scan Error communicating with scanner" It seems like some kind of a timeout. Scanning at 75dpi resulted in >90% success rate. Scanning at 150dpi resulted in ~80% success rate. Scanning at 300dpi resulted in ~50% success rate. Scanning at 300dpi resulted in ~10% success rate. Scanning at >= 600dpi resulted in 0% success rate.
A few times it ended up screwing something up in the printer so much that only a printer restart could solve the issue.
So the end result is that device gets recognized, scan gets started, sometimes gets finished successfully, but sometimes it ends abruptly.
If I can provide any extra details or check something then please indicate. I don't know if the timeout could be adjusted, maybe it would solve the problems.
