Backport of the patchset described here. Commit ID 0aea7a2f88a551d9dd38a2b405063cf5f97bfc29 is also mentioned in the ticket as a dependency, but this has already been integrated into CS9 (commit ID 6af3a60d). Tested by flashing and booting target device.
