Turning an existing x86_64 Alpine Linux installation into a postmarketOS one fails
I've tried turning an existing Alpine Linux installation on a external hard disk on a x86_64 laptop into postmarketOS, but encountered some problems. I followed this wiki page.
Basically, one of the to be installed packages is postmarketos-base
. However, that can't be installed on an Alpine system as it'll overwrite files owned by mkinitfs
. The installation will complete with an error, and now the system fails to boot if you try to.
I tried uninstalling mkinitfs
, but that required uninstalling syslinux
and linux-vanilla
as well. Besides linux-vanilla
also taking a lot of needed firmware with it, you can't reinstall syslinux
after installing postmarketos-mkinitfs
either (which you need to as otherwise you don't have a bootloader any more) as it has a hard dependency on mkinitfs
which, you guessed it, conflicts with postmarketos-mkinitfs
.
