Centring the microscope after building

From the Forum there are a couple of threads where users have found that the objective protrudes above the stage when the microscope is first assembled.

(photos in both threads)

There are also threads about the centring the x-y position - the first of the two above is an example.

There are two issues related to those reports. This issue is about the instructions for initial set-up after building, a second potential issue is in the hardware (#403).

The instructions should include a step to centre the actuators. This should probably be at the end of the page for assembling the actuators - when the builder has just been using the nut slot to insert the nut and so will understand what aligning that hole means. There should probably also be a re-check at the end of the build, before using the software.

  • Add a step to set actuators to the centre at the end of the actuator assembly !488 (merged)
  • Add a step to check actuator centre in the final page, before using the software edit: motor assembly (after this point the actuators are fixed until the software is used.) !488 (merged)
  • Consider adding a step about the need for a good slide for stage calibration, and the need for focusing before stage calibration, on the final page. !488 (merged)
  • Illumination at the correct height. !488 (merged)
  • Change final page to link to a basic "quick start guide" for alignment etc. This should be basic but exist before we release v7
