Raspberry: Userspace tools
Hi,
recently I stumbled upon monitoring of the temperature on RPi. We can access the CPU temperature through /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
but this does not get us access to the GPU temperature.
There are userspace tools that do this and are part of the firmware. They are located under opt/vc
and hardfp/opt/vc/bin
in firmware repository.
The command in question is vcgencmd
as describe here.
My guess is it interacts with the firmware in the GPU otherwise we could directly read the value from the kernel. But that's not what I want to discuss.
There are more tools in the repository and they are also divided into "soft float" (my guess) and "hard float" that could go into separate packages.
The packages would inherit from the raspberrypi-firmware
and provide just these patched binaries for the correct supported platforms.
This way the repository would be cashed for download and the resulting package will only have either firmware to boot or the user space tools.
Therefore there will be 3 packages. Or would you put everything into one?
