bump fails to reset patch when increasing minor
bumpit requires you to specify a single user for commits which forces you to do. Not that all of this is wrong, it just won't do for us
most alternatives here are not really useful
tbump I fail to see how a tool requiring you to indicate the version every time would even be considered an alternative to bump2version

So, bump2version is the lesser evil.
