Proposal: Yearly major release at the end of April
This came up during a discussion of how to iterate on discovery.yml and handling breaking changes.
Proposal - do a major numbered release every April to celebrate Meltano's birthday (April 27). This would get users into a yearly cadence on major breaking changes and would allow us to plan for them.
- 2022-04 - 2.0
- 2023-04 - 3.0
GitLab currently does this and it's good for repeatability and enterprise customers who work on a more yearly cadence.
Reason not to do it currently is that we're still heavily iterating on the underlying model so maybe it's okay to just do some major releases if we need to break things and then down the road a bit get more stable on numbered releases.
