HEVC with Dolby Vision are always generated corrupt with MKVToolNix v56.0.0 and v56.1.0
Hello,
I have MKVToolNix v56.1.0 installed, and I have created a MKV starting from a MKV generated by MakeMKV (since the video contains Dolby Vision), a process that I have done many other times, but this time when playing the file it was completely unwatchable... There are constantly massive pixelations and macroblocks.
I have installed the previous version, MKVToolNix v56.0.0, and there is the same problem.
I have tried the previous version, MKVToolNix v55.0.0, and everything works perfect again. I have also tried with v55.0.0 to create a new MKV starting from a "bad" MKV (created with v56.0.0), to see if its correct video playback was "restored", but that does not happen and it still fails.
I've been testing a lot of videos, and absolutely all DV videos have this problem. And I have also been testing many videos without DV (only HDR10) and absolutely all of them work perfect (I have also generated them with MakeMKV, so that they are in the same conditions).
So the problem with DV seems to appear from v56.0.0, included.
I've read its changelog, and the only change I've seen related to HEVC is the following:
mkvmerge, mkvextract: HEVC/H.265: both programs will now normalize the placement of VPS, SPS and PPS NALUs. Each key frame is prefixed with exactly one copy of the currently active parameter sets. This fixes certain classes of bugs related to splitting/appending. Fixes #3034 (closed).
Could that new change be breaking the "second" video track?
The strangest thing is that my media player does not support Dolby Vision, that is, it plays the simple HEVC HDR10, and it also fails playback anyway. But the strangest thing is that I have tried PC softwares like MPC-HC and VLC and it apparently plays well.
It would be extremely useful and would be greatly appreciated if MKVToolNix could be updated again so as not to "break" the DV videos.
Since MKVToolNix has not yet been updated to have the ability to create DV itself, it would be really useful if it does not break those DV videos previously created by another tool.
Thank you very much!
P.S. I have uploaded many samples to your file server:
Videos named "_Sample" work perfect (generated with old MKVToolNix), while videos named "_Sample__MKVToolNix_56" (generated from the "_Sample" files themselves) have this playback error.
I've also uploaded many samples without DV (only HDR10), but as I explained before, both ("_Sample" and "_Sample__MKVToolNix_56") work fine, just in case they are also useful to you.
