The functionality works as an additional filter, where you select reference animal ID, and after applying the selection only the specimens for the selected reference animal are shown, ordered by date and connected with line. To return to the normal view, where all the samples are shown, you have to remove the selected reference animal (x icon in the dropbox) and apply the action.

Only the samples that correspond to the reference animal ID **and to the data overview filter parameters** are shown, therefore, if the samples for example fall out of the selected date span you might get an empty result:
