Achieving better compression level using zopfli (DEFLATE)
Summary
The DEFLATE encoder (https://gitlab.com/libtiff/libtiff/-/blob/master/libtiff/tif_zip.c) used by libtiff was wrote in 1997. Since then, new implementations were written that achieve better compression ratio.
One of them is zopfli (https://github.com/google/zopfli). It would be great to adapt the library so it can be used by libtiff and be able to specify which encoder we use in order to achieve better compression. zopfli is pretty slow but it doesn't matter in some cases (https://www.techrepublic.com/article/googles-zopfli-compression-algorithm-extract-higher-performance-from-your-compressed-files/)
There are other implementations that offer a better compression for a similar (or greater) speed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deflate#Encoder_implementations
