Pop selected object out of group, misbehaving (1.0 beta)
Steps to reproduce:
- open Inkscape
- make a new layer
- make a group and put in lower layer
- or use attached test file
- Ctrl + click one object in the group
- Object menu > Pop selected object out of group
What happened?
Object is moved to the layer above
What should have happened?
Object should come out of the group, but should not change layers
Inkscape Version and Operating System:
- Inkscape Version: ... 1.0beta1 (fe3e3069, 2019-09-17)
- Operating System: ... Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit
I'm told that this feature is supposed to work by entering the group. And indeed, it does work that way, as expected. But there needs to be some clue, somehow, about how the object is supposed to be selected. To me, Ctrl + click is faster and less potentially confusing than entering the group (because of how when you enter a group, suddenly there's a new layer, and you're in it, and there's no obvious way out, and then the user has to go for help). (Personally I avoid telling new users about the ability to enter a group, for this reason.) Or else the pop out feature needs to work either way.
Apparently some quasi-fix was made at some point, where right-click > pop out was removed from right-click menu if user was not inside the group. However, the Object menu item does not behave that way. But I think doing the same with the Object menu would just remove this feature for those people who either don't know how or don't want to enter the group.
It seems to me the feature should work either way?
Thanks for listening.
