Inconsistencies in interface text
Steps to reproduce:
- open Inkscape
- look around at the various dialogues and menus.
What happens?
You will notice inconsistencies in capitalisation, grammar, typography etc.
What should happen?
There should be no such inconsistencies.
So, two questions:
-
Would it be useful to put together a style guide that specifies all these things? I would be happy to work on the English version.
-
Would it make sense to add an en.po file to use as the default for en_XX languages? Making small changes to the text in the source is a pain as it also changes the msgids — the merging process isn't perfect and a lot of translations get altered or marked as fuzzy needlessly.
Also, it seems the use of micro-typography is encouraged, which I'm for, but having such Unicode in the source code isn't ideal and adding them as you are coding is a pain. So, having "standard" punctuation in the source and the Unicode micro-typography in the “translation“ makes a lot of sense to me, and small changes to the text then needn't affect the other translations.
Again, another change I would be happy to make — I would like to get more involved.
