Inkscape for OSX doesn't support "Qwerty ⌘" keymaps
Steps to reproduce:
- Set OSX to use "Dvorak - QWERTY ⌘"
- open Inkscape
- Press ⌘Q (the physical 'Q' key on the top-left of your QWERTY keyboard)
- Press ⌘X (the physical 'X' key on the bottom-left of your QWERTY keyboard)
What happened?
Nothing happens when ⌘Q is pressed (unlike every other Mac application). Inkscape closes when ⌘X is pressed.
What should have happened?
Under "Dvorak - QWERTY ⌘" all the keys are rearranged under the Dvorak pattern (e.g. the 'j' becomes 'h'). However, when the '⌘' modifier key is pressed, all keys should revert to their QWERTY pattern. Thus ⌘X, ⌘C, ⌘V (cut, copy, paste) remain in their QWERTY locations. Inkscape does not honour this.
Quote from Wikipedia:
Apple also includes a Dvorak variant they call "Dvorak – Qwerty ⌘". With this layout, the keyboard temporarily becomes QWERTY when the Command (⌘/Apple) key is held down. By keeping familiar keyboard shortcuts like "close" or "copy" on the same keys as ordinary QWERTY, this lets some people use their well-practiced muscle memory and may make the transition easier.
