Meeting - 15 July - Website purpose discussion meeting
The first task in the scoping of the content for the website revamp initiative is clearly defining what Inkscape website purpose should be.
Questions we need to answer (add your own by editing this description):
-
Which audiences should the website address in the most prominent way?
-
Inkscape is for the entire world, not just open source world
-
What do audience segments need most from the website?
-
Should Inkscape website be the main source of resources for everyone, or should maybe GL be included with some docs for contributors?
-
what does Inkscape mean in the past, present and the future?
-
How is Inkscape different from other related software? In features and in development.
-
What value do we provide to our users?
-
What is the tone and voice of language our users use? (so we know how to write for them)
-
Why should people use Inkscape? What will they get out of it? (in a more problem solving context) What problems do we solve for them?
-
Why does Inkscape have credibility? Why should they listen to us?
-
What does Inkscape promise?
-
What is so relatable about Inkscape?
-
What do we want from our visitors? What are our Calls to Action?
-
What are the keywords we want people to associate with Inkscape?
-
What was Inkscape the first to do?
-
What is Inkscape the only to do?
-
What is Inkscape the best at?
-
What are functional and emotional benefits to our users for using Inkscape?
-
What's our elevator pitch? Fill this in:
Inkscape is the only ________(what, category) that _________(how, different) for _________(who), globally (where) who need __________(why) when they ________(when, need sth).

Some articles about how to write an About page can be helpful with this, for example: https://thestoryoftelling.com/10-rules-for-writing-about-me-page/
What goes into an About page is closely connected with the purpose so that's why it might help. That article is for a personal page but all the points apply here too.
Feel free to discuss here before the meeting so everyone is familiar with all the ideas before we jump into the discussion.

Duration: 1h official part
longer than 1h for extra credit
We're scheduling it at the time that includes the other side of the world and allows for them to participate :) We'll alternate the meeting time between these two options, or at least pick the time zones according to the meeting purpose and which contributors want to attend. Europe is in good position to join both time slots, contributors from around ~GMT-8 and GMT+10 might alternate.
Place:
Audio conference on BigBlueButton (sponsored by @marcjeanmougin and Télécom Paris university):

If anyone wants to video-call they're free to do so and show us their pets :D
If anyone isn't confortable speaking English you're welcome to participate through the text chat within the conferencing platform, we'll read those as they come up during the meeting and include them into the discussion.
