Calligraphic pen width should be in absolute units by default (with option switch in toolbar)
Steps to reproduce:
- open Inkscape
- set document units to mm
- select calligraphic tool
- set width
- draw something, then zoom in
What happened?
- by default, width is relative to screen size. This can already be changed in the Calligraphy tool preferences
- When zooming in for detail, your line width all the sudden changes. That behavior can be useful for some type of work, but most of the time you want to have some better control over that.
What should have happened?
Taken from the comments below:
I think that the easiest way would be to have a switch on the pen control tool that says "Zoom With Scale <#>". After your first curses about the behavior of the pen tool and seeing that option blinking at you, you'll get blissful thoughts about the UI designer for having given the option.
I would expect it to be default behavior, but funnily I have had use cases for the zoom and scale as well. I did illustrations and would zoom in and out for hatching. Had I had more control over the zoom levels I think it would actually be a very powerful option. A navigation control tool with percentage input field and with a move view X,Y units would be nice for cartography and technical stuff. If not possible, I would have it be the only behavior as Inkscape is the only tool I know that does this. Like Blenders right mouse button to select was....
Inkscape Version and Operating System:
- Inkscape Version: alpha1 & beta1
- Operating System: all 64bit
- Operating System version: win10, LinuxMint18
Update: issue was originally also about more precise control over the width. This has been moved to inkscape#1717 (closed) . There were also some kind words about Inkscape that were removed by this editor
