Text Font Search in panel string should match any part of the font name. Not just the start.
Summary:
Search often does not find an installed font because it has a prefix. Real world example: Copperplate will not be found if you don't know it's actual installed name is "OPTICopperplate" This search should find the letters in "any part of the font name". So typing VERA would find Bitstream Vera Sans
Background
Many Fonts have a prefix to the name. Often many many fonts begin with the same letters. E.G
- Bitstream Charter
- Bitstream Vera Sans
- Bitstream Vera Sans Mono
- Bitstream Vera Serif
- Bitstream ...
Steps to reproduce:
- Open the Text and Font panel
- Set the focus on the list of fonts
- Type a few letters E.G. BIT
- See a font is highlighted in the list matching the start of the name of the font.
EG Bitstream Charter or *Bitsream Vera Sans. * - Scroll up and down on your list and see how many of your fonts begin with an identical prefix.
Expectation
- Typing letters to search should find a match in "any part of the font name and" highlight the first one in a similar way as today.
- Typing "Vera" would highlight Bitstream Vera Sans
- Typing "Vera se" would highlight Bitstream Vera Serif
-
This should be the default. As that is familiar most users. EG File manager or Web search.
-
An option in settings could change this default to the "start of the name" if required,
