Feature Request: Relink Images with broken link

Migrated from https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/171085 🍷

Steps to reproduce:

  • link an image into your document
  • create something beautiful.svg
  • move on with your life
  • weeks (or months) later and various rearrangings of directory structure, deletions, additions, etc., reopen something beautiful.svg

What happened?

The dreaded "⊠ Linked Image Not Found"!

What should have happened?

Inkscape, like Blender, After Effects, Scribus, et al., should offer a way to find/browse for and relink the missing image(s).

Inkscape Version and Operating System:

  • Inkscape Version: 1.1-dev (bc69992, 2020-04-15)
  • Operating System: macOS 10.13.6 (17G12034)

Additional Information/Comments:

Original report (edit):

It would be nice if you guys made it easier to update an imported image. I imported an image a long time ago and then decided to organise my folders. I moved that image because I needed it somewhere else. It turns out that I ended up with a "broken image". Can you make it so that I could right-click on a "broken image" and then be able to update the path for all the images?

  • Issue assigned to Jon A. Cruz. No movement since 2010.
  • Apologies for any missed duplicate issue(s). Issues I encountered during a search didn't involve linked images.
