Filter dialogs (Drop Shadow) live preview covers and darkens canvas (Gnome mutter)
I find this to be a critical one. And someone should check for other instances of this behaviour throughout the program.
Steps to reproduce:
-
launch Inkscape
-
draw a circle shape
-
select the newly drawn circle shape
-
Go Filters > Shadows and Glows > Drop Shadow...
-
Check "Live preview"
-
observe the "Drop Shadow" window centering itself over the circle you are trying to see
-
observe Inkscape window becoming darker and now you don't see the real representation of the shadow preview.
What happened?
I wanted to add drop shadow to en element. I did the steps above. Drop Shadow window blocked my view of the element I was putting shadow on. The Inkscape window darkened so even if the Drop Shadow window didn't block my view I still wouldn't be able to see the real image and shaddow because the window was darkened.
What should have happened?
After checking "Live preview", the "Drop Shadow" window should have stayed independent from the main window and freely movable. The main window shouldn't have been covered with an dark overlay nor any other overlay.
Inkscape Version and Operating System:
Inkscape Version:
- tracking: edge
- stable: 0.92.4
Note that I've notices this bug in the previous versions too, but I couldn't reproduce it today. On the other hand it's reproducible every time in this version.
