A call for packaging help
Hello everyone,
EDIT: Okay I already notice a first mistake: obviously, what I am talking about is not an "incident" requiring urgent action. Is it possible to change that, and where?
I own quite a number of (mostly GOG, some itch) games, and one of the things I need in guix is having the games I love to play on another machine available.
Now, I've been working to package at least some of those games over the last month but have not been successful so far; none of them want to start, even if they succeed to build. Being new to programming and learning it on my own in my free time, I could really use some pointers or an advice where to focus my attention. I am trying to learn using the resources available (manual, present source code), but feel that there is some things which I simply dont understand, and dont know where to look them up other than in code. One of the things I am missing the most is documentation for the (wrap-program ...)-form. I am kinda starting to get a feel for it, but being able to look it up somewhere would be rather nice. A pointer here is greatly appreciated.
My idea was that I could post - one post at a time - a package that I am working on, and if anyone has time to check it, that would be great. Obviously, I would try to prepare it to the best of my abilities (it needs to build fine, it does not contain obviously crappy code, it does not use unneeded dependencies, ...). Maybe it can help your motivation to think that you are helping to groom a future (game and other) package maintainer and long-termin guix user ;-)
If I shall proceed in another fashion, please tell me.
Unless I dont hear anything to the contrary, I shall begin posting -- more or less regularly -- starting from next monday.
Greetings :)
