[Other] [WIN7 & others] gvedit.exe: auto association of .gv files & relevant registry entries
Ported Issue from Mantis Original ID: 2442 Reported By: Jannick
SEVERITY: FEATURE Submitted: 2014-04-17 15:30:39
DESCRIPTION
GV2.38 on Win7: .gv-files are not automatically associated to gvedit.exe upon graphviz installation. A manual association is saved in the registry with the full path to gvedit.exe under [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\gvedit.exe\shell\open\command = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Graphviz2.38\bin\gvedit.exe" "%1"].
NB: A short path to gvedit is not accepted even if gvedit is known to the system, i.e. if the graphviz/bin folder is in PATH.
After any graphviz update installation, the path above is dead. Moreover, it prohibits to manually re-associate .gv-files to gvedit.exe now residing in another folder.
Feature request (for gvedit at least):
- kill the association registry entries upon de-installation
- set the association registry entries upin installation
Not sure if this can really be solved with an approach using PATH.
