No stable-named tarball of the release
At https://graphviz.gitlab.io/download/Download_source.html the link for the current stable release is titled "graphviz-2.40.1.tar.gz" but the actual URL is https://graphviz.gitlab.io/pub/graphviz/stable/SOURCES/graphviz.tar.gz and contains the pregenerated autotool/libtool files. The tagged item in the gitlab report is https://gitlab.com/graphviz/graphviz/tags/stable_release_2.40.1 which is a snapshot of the repo at that point and therefore does not contain the pregenerated materials.
My problem as a downstream packager or writer of instructions for in-house setups, there is no stable URL for the actual stable release. My notes from using 2.38, prior to the migration to gitlab, used something like http://www.graphviz.org/pub/graphviz/ARCHIVE/graphviz-2.38.0.tar.gz so that would always be 2.38.0 regardless of what newer "current" release might come out, and would not require that I change my instructions to use the autotools (and their attendant added dependencies). Could a version-named tarball with the pregenerated files be made available?
