When my thumb is on the trackpad, iTerm intercepts selection in vim

- OS version: OS X 10.15.3
I have been in the settings for ages now, and done a lot of googling but I haven't found an answer. Apologies if I am looking in the wrong place.
What happened: When using vim in iTerm2, if my thumb is on the trackpad - as it usually is - iTerm keep intercepting my clicks and drags. In the video you can see the grey highlights being my desired effect, but the blue highlights are what I want to disable. iTerm
In the case of clicks, vim just ignores it completely when it happens. I believe it is incorrectly interpreting some of my clicks as two-finger clicks.
What should have happened: It should ignore my clicks and pass them straight through to vim, either by default, or via a setting.
I have tried: Mapping all possible mouse bindings to 'ignore' Disabling all pointer options Disabling 2-finger click in osx. Bunch of other things.
Debug:
In the attached log I did three attempts to highlight text in vim. The third one was an 'iTerm drag' rather than a 'vim drag' debuglog.txt
