Inconsistent Titlebar Bell Glyph Behavior / Bell Glyph in iTerm2 Title Bar Won't Go Away
Thank you so much for iTerm2! I use it every day.
- iTerm2 version: 3.2.7
- OS version: 10.13.6 (17G5019)
- Attach ~/Library/Preferences/com.googlecode.iterm2.plist here (drag-drop from finder into this window)
- Attach a debug log, if possible. Instructions at https://iterm2.com/debuglogcom.googlecode.iterm2.plist
- Are you reporting a performance issue, excessive CPU usage, or a hang? No.
- Are you reporting a crash? No.
- Are you reporting excessive memory usage? No.
Detailed steps to reproduce the problem:
- Open iTerm2 with existing profiles (I have one split-paned window and one multi-tabbed window, FWIW).
- Trigger a bell in one window.
- Observe the bell glyph appearing in the other window, or not appearing at all on any window.
- Try to clear the bell glyph (if it appears) by focusing all of the panes of the window with the bell glyph.
What happened: After updating iTerm2 and then MacOS, iTerm2 launched on login and opened my profile windows, and while leaving one of them untouched, I started working in the other. Later, I noticed that the untouched window had a bell icon in the title bar. That terminal shouldn't have encountered a BEL character yet, and the bell glyph neither goes go away when I focus each of the panes of that iTerm2 window, nor when I click the bell glyph itself.
I was able to reproduce this by quitting and restarting iTerm -- one time. Then, I closed all windows and opened two new, plain, iTerm windows to see if the bell would appear in the same window for a BEL character triggered in each terminal. That didn't happen, so I quit and restarted again, and using my default windows this time, the bell glyph didn't appear at all (though the correct terminal did flash correctly).
Wild guess: this inconsistent bell glyph behavior makes me think something's wrong with the mechanism that associates the window to the terminal that displayed a BEL.
What should have happened: The bell glyph should have appeared in the correct window titlebar, and should have gone away when I focused the window (certainly after focusing both panes of the window), or when I clicked the bell glyph itself (that's probably a new feature idea; some mechanism to directly clear the bell would be nice).
P.S. I saw this similar report on apple.stackexchange.com (and left my own remark there, which I updated after further testing): https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/310933/how-can-i-disable-the-bell-icon-emoji-from-the-title-bar-in-iterm2/349666#349666
