Auto-logging output to files

I would really like to request the ability to auto-log printable output of every session to a custom file name in a selected directory.
Basically if you could have an option to create a text file in a output
directory every time a session is created. All the output from a particular session is dumped in that file either as raw, or printed, with the option to exclude passwords. The output file name structure could include variable options like %y = year, %m = month, &d = day, %t = time, %h = host etc, I.e., %y%m%d-%t, %h will produce a filename 20101211-1233, 10.1.1.1.txt
This is similar to the current iTerm 'LOG' functionality, but without
requiring to enable it, and select a destination with the filename
everytime a new window is opened.
Why is this useful. I am a network engineer. I work on many network
device live in operation. I used to find it very useful on Putty, to find old information in these log files by grepping. Either something I could not remember, or to show the output of my actions a week ago.
This purpose is almost similar to the "step back in time" feature, but
its recorded in a text file somewhere.
For clarity, if i did not explain myself well I included a image with
the options I am referring to.
