Arbitrary character replacements

when you
- make iterm echo characters
- and then stare at the output
- you will sometimes see the wrong characters
details below.
when i do this (tried Python, NodeJS):

i get this arbitrary when you

i get this arbitrary `H in the output (which i can in fact then copy to other applications, so it's more than a mere rendering thing).
that said, when repeating the test, even pasting into the command line brought up the faulty character.
What version of iTerm2 are you using? 1.0.0.20140629
What OS version are you using? OSX 10.8.4
