URL selection is inconsistent with word selection

TO DO AND NOTICE:
-
Set your terminal to 80 columns wide.
-
Run this command:
-
First, to show the difference between these two lines, try double-clicking the "fillerfiller" text on the first line, and the corresponding text on the second line. Notice that the "nextline" is treated as a separate line (since there was a newline between it and the preceding line), and "fillerfiller" is not (because there was no newline).
-
Now, try cmd+clicking the two URLs. Notice that the text on the next line is treated as part of the URL in both cases, even though it was treated as a separate line earlier.
-
Boggle. Why are these treated differently?
The expected result here is for the (invisible) newline separating the "filler" from "nextline" to split the first URL, just like it splits word selection. This comes up somewhat frequently when opening URLs in irssi which happen to end in the 80th column. (The next line almost invariably contains a prompt or timestamp, which makes the URL invalid.)
