Deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.googlecode.iterm2.plist does not reset iTerm2 to defaults

What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Make an easily visible change in your iTerm2 Preferences (like loading the Solarized Light Color Preset).
- Quit iTerm2
- Delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.googlecode.iterm2.plist
- Open iTerm2 again.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected result: Preferences are reset to defaults (e.g. no Solarized Light Color Preset applied) and ~/Library/Preferences/com.googlecode.iterm2.plist is regenerated with default values.
Actual result: My old custom preferences are still applied to iTerm2 (cached?) and ~/Library/Preferences/com.googlecode.iterm2.plist was not regenerated. I could force the regeneration of the plist by either rebooting or changing a setting in Preferences.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
iTerm2 Build 1.0.0.20131119-nightly, OS X 10.9 (13A2093)
