Bad rendering of umlauts

After the last update, umlauts are rendered bad. I think it's an issue that Unicode allows an umlaut (ä ö etc.) to be represented in two ways: As one character (optimized by font designers) and as two characters (¨o). It looks like iterm has moved to the second type.
I attached a screenshot with the rendering compared iTerm vs. MacVim.
