Add option to only make default background trasnparent while keeping non-default character backgrounds always opaque

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Preferences->Window->Transparency->set to a non opaque value
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Under other terminal emulators, the background of a character, if any, is not rendered transparent when transparency is set. I think this is the correct solution. For example, powerline use a special arrow character to show an arrow. When transparency is on, ordinary background is going transparent, but that arrow is still opaque. It looks weird. I think that backgrounds and characters should be rendered same.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
iTerm2 Build 1.0.0.20130319 on OS X 10.8.3
